EDM 310 Experience

When I began this class this semester, I thought I knew all about computers. I have had computers classes in the past, but the computer world is updated everyday. It is important to stay on top of things because if you don’t with computer and the internet you will be left in the dust. As the weeks past I continued to learn new stuff and it was unreal. I was very interested in it all.

When I had to create my blog, I had never seen or heard of one before. But after I got it created it was very interesting to maintain and keep it up to date. I had to use Google Docs to present a PowerPoint presentation. I have got to say I was very nervous, but I got it created and presented it well if I may say so myself. I did not know that Google offered free programs that resembles word, excel, and PowerPoint. It was very easy to use and it was great to be able to save my stuff on the web and not have to use a drive or disk. That is really convenient when you are on the internet and if you forgot to bring your saving device. I also had to view podcasts. I had never heard or listened to one of them before this class. I found them to be very helpful for classrooms. While recording our group podcast, I was really nervous, but I could see myself recording some of them for my classes. As for using Twitter, I really did not like it. I think it might be useful in the classroom room, but I think I will leave it out of mine. I think that constantly posting person information is just too personal. I guess you might could just post things needed for the classroom, like “Homework due tomorrow”, but it is supposed to answer the question “What are you doing?” I found other blogs that were done by teachers today and they were very interesting. They had posts quite frequently and they stayed on top of things. They had really nice posts and pictures on their blogs. I found them useful and they gave me great ideas for my own blog. iTunes was very useful for our class this semester. I had to download many things from iTunes. I did not know that you could download newsletters, podcasts, or video podcasts for free. That was very nice and simple to do. School programs for students were mention in the class. I was unaware that students have available ACCESS and ALEX. These are to help children in school to succeed and actually apply for classes that would give them college credit. This is really great for advance students that are on a high level and need more challenging classes. I also learned how to mark certain web pages with a program called Delicious. This will be really useful when I become a teacher. I could use it to mark certain sites so that I could access them quickly when I need them. Foliotek is used for teacher certification. I like how easy it is to access through ecompanion, but I have a hard time matching the standards with all the letters and numbers.

I think that I learned more in this class than I though possible. It was very interesting and I do not have anything that I can think of that needed to be added to the class. It seemed to cover a lot of information that I never knew existed. There is really nothing in the class that I would have preferred not to learn. I think every bit of it very information and I probably will use all of it. If there is one thing that I was not going use it would be Twitter.
